A couple celebrating an anniversary
Imagine a couple planning their first visit to Italy. They want Rome, Florence and Venice, excellent hotels and a special evening together. Their first wish list also includes the Amalfi Coast, but they have nine nights and do not want a different hotel every other day.

Keep this example to three cities. Adding a coastal chapter would introduce another long move and take nights away from the places that first drew them to Italy.
Separate travel days from major visits
Move between the cities by rail, with hotel transfers considered separately. Keep the arrival afternoon flexible instead of making a timed museum reservation depend on a connection.
Make one evening the occasion
Discuss a special dinner in Venice, then confirm the table and timing. The rest of the trip can mix planned meals with discoveries along the way.
THE PROPOSED DESIGN
The proposed design gives Rome four nights, Florence three and Venice two. Selected guided visits provide context, while open time leaves room to enjoy the cities and the hotels.

Lunch and a break, followed by independent exploring if energy allows.

Art, then an open afternoon

A proposed Vatican Museums visit, matched to opening days, available admission and the couple’s interests.

Keep the afternoon free for the hotel, shops or a walk at their own pace.

Choose a restaurant near the day’s final stop instead of crossing the city again.
One major museum visit is enough for this day. Avoid treating every free hour as a gap to fill.

A new city, without a full new schedule
- Morning
Check out and travel to the station for the proposed Rome–Florence train.
- Afternoon
Continue to the hotel, settle in and take an introductory walk if arrival timing allows.
- Evening
Dinner at a comfortable hour with no fixed museum commitment.
Compare the complete move, not just the train time. Luggage, station access and check-in all use part of the day.
Florence · Art & neighbourhood time
A closer look at Renaissance art
- Morning
A proposed guided visit to one priority collection, such as the Uffizi, with admission confirmed separately.
- Afternoon
Lunch and time across the river in the Oltrarno, or a return to the hotel.
- Evening
An unhurried dinner chosen around food preferences.
Select the collection they most want to understand rather than stacking several museums.
Florence · An optional change of scenery
Choose a Tuscan interlude

Choose between another day in Florence and a proposed countryside outing with a driver.
